I'm very disappointed that I can't play this character in HWD any more... as you may be able to tell just from my thoughts on first sketches of this drawing, she was quite a lot of fun to play. Unfortunately the game turned out to be not just a re-run of the GM's previous (failed) attempts at GMing this game... but also heavily scripted. The final straw during the last episode I played in was the death trap the GM forced my character into. An NPC (that should have known better!) shot her mouth off in a public place. Based on that, the local assassins guild decided my character must die! We're still not sure why. As the group attempted to extricate themselves from the situation, the GM kept plunking down roadblocks in a rather obvious fashion... (Oh, your experienced warrior character isn't walking through the middle of the open courtyard? Why yes, the courtyard is actually completely devoid of anything resembling cover! Did I forget to mention the one assassin hunting you was actually a whole guild -- in this one small town? You're leaving by the gate? Ah... you know the courtyard gate you guys have been using for days? It's actually a heavy portcullis -- that they're dropping on you! Oh, the PC that just stepped into the gateway? I guess she didn't notice the stampeding horses coming her way! I guess the NPC that sent her into the gate didn't notice them either! ...hm... I guess that's just the way dice fall!) Sadly, the GM is still in chronic denial that his game is scripted, despite all the players quietly but publicly agreeing that his efforts to run my character along his pre-determined storyline (while I was there yet!) were, at best, unconvincing. The GM was also infuriated that I, in effect, told him he could not play my character at all accurately -- how hard is it to figure out that a trained warrior expecting attack doesn't walk across an open courtyard, after all? Amusingly enough, every other player told him this also, but I guess he just chose not to hear them. It was his graphic description of the horses screaming and dying under the heavy portcullis, and my character "escaping" to leave her friends injured and unconscious under the hooves of the horses, that caused me to disconnect from this heavily scripted game... never to return. Shortly thereafter I sent email apologizing to my fellow players for the abrupt exit, and resigning from the game. I told the referee that I didn't want him using my character in any capacity, and she should simply ride away, never to be seen again. Instead, he chose to have my character murdered in the street 'off-camera,' and leave her body on display for NPCs to eulogize -- with neither my consent nor participation! I consider this the meanest form of petty vengeance. I understand he considers it his perogative as GM to dispense with unused PCs as he sees fit... but no GMs worthy of respect would have done anything this crass or immature. Thus, with great regret, this sketch is a sort of fondly sentimental farewell to her ever being in his game. Also, just to make this PERFECTLY clear, this character, her likeness, and everything I've written about her is copyright by me. No one else may use her in any capacity without my explicit written permission. Since I have not given this GM permission to continue using this character in his game, any rumors you hear of her death are obviously greatly exaggerated.
