The Center for Democracy and Technology.
This is a lobbying group that keeps track of a number
of issues. They have a mailing list for important
announcements or calls for aid. The traffic is quite
light (one message a month or so, barring emergencies)
and they seem to have their head screwed on straight.

People For Internet Responsibility
|
From their site:
With the rapid commercialization of the Internet and its World
Wide Web, there are increasing concerns that decisions
regarding these resources are being irresponsibly skewed through
the influence of powerful, vested interests ...
whose goals are notnecessarily
always aligned with the concerns of individuals and the people at
large.
...
[It] is unwise and unacceptable for their influences to be
effectively the only significant factors affecting the broad
scope of Internet policies.

That page is
reproduced here,

The original site at L'Industrie De Meat (www.meat.com)

been abandoned.
Hope they got a decent price for it... :-)

The American Civil Liberties Union
(ACLU)
|
While they are zealous in the defense of the liberties
recognize, I must say that they are quite selective
about which rights they deem worthy. At this point,
I cannot recommend you support this organization.

Gone, but not forgotten.
They did good work, and brought the earliest threats to free
